I’ve been working on all sorts of infographics all week. One piece I did for a client had to do with the U.S. unemployment rate, so I was naturally curious about how that would relate to holiday purchases. I’d heard that people were spending less, but I wondered how much it had to do with the unemployment rate. When charted out, there is a noticeable ebb and flow to the holiday sales increases.

On another topic: You know how Ira Glass scripts his pauses and stutters so that he’s so thoroughly rehearsed he sounds even MORE unrehearsed than if he were unrehearsed? Well, let’s quit talking about that: there’s something much more important we should focus on.
On Metafilter, where I found your project, (many of them think you are awesome and at least one “totally #@(%ing awesome”), somebody posted “Only the inhaling from an hour of All Things Considered” (http://www.metafilter.com/90166/This-American-Infographic#2997270). As I said, everyone knows about Ira Glass’s idiosyncracy and we need to let him alone about it. This All Thing Considered inhale thing was interesting, but I question the need for it. What cries out for attention is the UNBEARABLE inhale style of SCOTT SIMON. It is chief among his legion of infuriating mannerisms disguised as tics. Someone needs to “only the inhales” Scott Simon’s Saturday show.
Please let somebody see this and leap into action: Scott Simon’s snucking MUST BE STOPPED.
